How to crop unwanted areas of video

If you are trying to center video or remove annoying borders, video cropping is the way to go.
Note, VirtualDub works with AVI/MPEG files only. First of all, you need to convert your video to AVI/MPEG format.

Load Video

Load an AVI file by clicking the File | Open video file menu command or simply drag and drop it onto the VirtualDub's window

Add a Video Filter

Click the Video | Filters menu item.
You will see the Cropping button at the right bottom corner. It is disabled now and you can not click it. To enable it click the Add button and add the Null Tranform Filter (no transformation). When you return to the filters menu, the Cropping button will be enabled.

Crop Video

Click the Cropping button near the right bottom corner. The cropping dialog box will appear with four controls (offsets): X1 (left), X2 (right), Y1 (top), (bottom).
To crop video simply increase these values. You can see the result of cropping in the preview window.

Save Video

Click the Video | Full processing mode then click the Video | Compression to select the video compressor.
Click the Audio | Full processing mode then click the Audio | Compression to select the audio compressor.
Click the File | Save as AVI to save video.

That's all!
